Sleat Community Transport

As the ferry no longer goes from John o Groats, we were trying to find a way to deal with this. So, we ask people who travel north to fill in our form and tell us if they go to Scrabster to catch the ferry, whether they travel north on the train or on the bus.  This is for research purposes only.  We can advise on tours on Orkney if you are a member of our Travel Club.

Great news about the Farr Community  and their electric vehicle.

This rather smart looking Electric Car is their new Community Vehicle
Thanks to funding secured by the Sutherland Resilience Initiative we have a Community Electric Car.  This car will be available to:
  • Get people to appointments - doctors, dentists Raigmore etc
  • Get people to amenities - shops and banks
  • Get people to employment and training - Job interviews, training events
  • Get people to community activity - events, clubs

We're setting up the systems and should be on the road in a couple of weeks.  We are recruiting for a driver/administrator to help to set things up and we're looking for volunteer drivers.

Once we're up and running you'll be able to ring up and ask for a lift and a volunteer driver will come to your door and take you were you need to be.  This service will be free - but we will ask you for a donation to help cover our costs

There's still lots of details to iron out - but keep an eye on social media etc for more details when service is live.

Welcoming the car to Bettyhill was  (L-R), Cllr Matthew Reiss, Cllr Michael Baird (Sutherland Resilience Initiative), Cllr Richard Gale (Sutherland Resilience Initiative), Simon Lee (Farr North Manager), Patricia Munro (Bettyhill Strathnaver and Altnaharra Community Councillor and member of the Farr North Community Transport Group), Caroline Easthope (Farr North Director), Eileen Bryant (Melvich Community Council and Farr North Community Transport Group).  Behind the camera was Andreas Herfurt (Farr North Director).
